OBJECTIVE  Court Intrepreters are often in situations that they have to interpret for individuals of the full spectrum of the stratus of society. A lot of them live marginalized lifes and have developed the ability to comunicate in the local slang or in bilingual slang known as Caló which has been exported to México and Central America along with the gangs and reimported with the new immigrants.

It is vital that an interpreter can discern the slang and double speak

that many of these micro subcultures bring with them. With that in mind several sight translations have been especially created to give court interpreters a broad practice and exposure to many of these terms and expresions through the practice of sight translation which afords a real life experience of how we might encounter this language and at the same time it allows interpreters to pause and understand the full implications of what he or she is translating.
